Delete your data

How to ask Deliver Now to delete your personal data, what happens next, and the little we have to keep.

Last updated:

The short version

  • Send DELETE MY DATA to Deliver Now on WhatsApp. You do not need an account.
  • We reply with a reference that starts with DR.
  • Within 30 days we delete or anonymise your personal data and confirm on WhatsApp.
  • We keep only what the law or an open delivery, case or cash balance requires.

1How to ask

There are two ways. WhatsApp is the quickest.

On WhatsApp

  1. Open WhatsApp on the Zimbabwe mobile number whose data you want deleted. From a number outside Zimbabwe, write to us by email instead.
  2. Start a chat with Deliver Now at .
  3. Send DELETE MY DATA. Capital letters and punctuation do not matter.
  4. We reply with your request reference: DR followed by six letters and numbers, for example DR-7K2Q9P.

By email

If you cannot use WhatsApp, write to privacy@delivernowafrica.com with the subject “Delete my data”.

Tell us the WhatsApp number your data is linked to, and your name if you gave us one. We may ask a few questions to check that the request really comes from you.

Anyone can ask: on WhatsApp from a Zimbabwe mobile number, or by email from anywhere. You do not need to have booked a delivery or to have an account, and it works even if your account is suspended. If your account is blocked, we may have to keep the record of the block: within 30 days we tell you whether your data can be deleted, and why if not.

If you send DELETE MY DATA again while your request is still open, we reply with the same reference. You do not need to ask twice.

2What happens next

  1. We record your request and alert our dispatch team. The alert shows your number only partly.
  2. Within 30 days, dispatch deletes or anonymises your personal data. Anonymised records no longer show who you are.
  3. If a delivery you booked, receive or carry is still open, or you have an open case, a cash return or payout still being checked, or goods cash still to return, we finish that first and then complete your request.
  4. While we delete your data, only STOP, START and DELETE MY DATA work from your number. It usually takes minutes.
  5. Dispatch closes your request with a note, and we confirm on WhatsApp: “Your data deletion request DR-… is complete.” If you have sent STOP, that WhatsApp message cannot reach you, so ask by email if you want a written confirmation. If you asked by email, we also reply by email.

3What we delete

We delete or anonymise the personal data described in our privacy policy. For example:

  • your name and WhatsApp number in our contact records;
  • the messages you sent us, and our replies;
  • delivery details that identify you, such as addresses, recipient names and numbers, photos and location pins;
  • courier or shop registration details, including ID, licence and vehicle photos, and payout details;
  • your web portal sign-in details.

4What we keep, and why

We keep only what the law or an open delivery, case or cash balance requires:

  • Money records, such as goods cash collected and returned, payment references, fares and courier earnings. The law requires us to keep these for 6 years, for accounting and tax. They no longer show your name or number: a payment reference that was your phone number is replaced.
  • An open delivery, until it is finished or cancelled.
  • An open dispute or case, until it is closed. After that, we keep the case record for 6 years.
  • A cash balance: goods cash a courier still has to return, until it is settled.
  • A record of your request: its DR reference, its dates and your number in masked form (for example +263 77 ••• •123), to show we handled it. We keep it for 6 years.

Other people's records keep only what is theirs. We remove your number, ID and plate numbers wherever they appear, and your name and your deliveries' addresses wherever a record is about you. A message to someone else that mentions only your first name, such as a courier's first name in a delivery update, stays in our message log until that log is deleted after 12 months.

We use what we keep only for these purposes, and delete it when its period ends. Our privacy policy lists every period.

5Couriers holding goods cash

Goods cash belongs to the shop or sender. If you are a courier and still hold goods cash, return it first, by EcoCash or at our office. Once we have verified the return, we can complete your request.

The record of that money stays with our other money records for 6 years.

6Stopping messages is different

STOP stops our messages. It does not delete your data.

DELETE MY DATA deletes your data. If you also want our messages to stop straight away, send STOP as well.

After STOP we cannot send you the WhatsApp confirmation that your request is complete.

You can send START at any time to turn messages back on.

If you contact us again after your data is deleted, or someone sends you a new delivery, we start a new record.
